When it comes to replacing missing teeth, we offer several options at Niguel Coast Oral & Facial Surgery. One of the most popular ways to replace teeth are dental implants, and too many patients are unaware of what the process of placing dental implants entails and how they can benefit your life.

The Process

If you have a missing tooth or need one extracted, the next step is to replace it. This is done when an oral surgeon in Dana Point, CA, places small titanium implants in the jawbone. Over the next two to six months, the bone and implant bond and create anchors for your new teeth. During the healing process, you will be given a temporary tooth for aesthetic purposes.

Once the healing has occurred, extensions are attached, and temporary healing caps are placed on top. After this, the gums have a chance to heal while the final teeth or dentures are created and eventually attached to the implant.

What Are the Benefits?

While dental implants often seem more expensive up front, the truth is that they more than make up for it down the road. If they are placed correctly and cared for appropriately, implants can last a lifetime. They require little to no maintenance, saving you money on dental visits and costly procedures.

Implants also help to protect the bone. Once the root of the tooth is gone, there is nothing left to stimulate the bone and it may crumble over time. Dentures don’t address this problem, but implants do. Because the rod is placed in the jawbone and it bonds to the bone, it stimulates it to keep growing. This is one of the most important benefits of dental implants.
