Once you have your dental implants completed, it is very important to provide proper maintenance. There are a few things that you should keep in mind and implement to ensure that your implants are comfortable and remain functional for as long as possible.

The Initial Process

There are a few different dental implant procedures that individuals routinely have. Depending upon the one chosen, the process could be completed in one or a few different visits. Your dentist will be able to work with you to determine the best option for you. Once the implants are in, it is normal to experience some discomfort as the gum and bone adjust to the implants.

After the Procedure

The things that you do directly after you have the procedure can strongly impact your oral health. It is critical that you keep your mouth clean. Should you experience any swelling, be sure to use an ice pack or any other prescribed methods to minimize the swelling. Only use over-the-counter pain relievers when absolutely necessary, and try to stick with soft foods until the implant site is able to fully heal.

Oral Care Routine

A proper oral care routine is important for oral health in general, but it is essential to maintaining dental implants. Along with brushing twice a day and flossing, there are a few other measures that can be taken to help enhance your oral care routine, including:
• An antibacterial rinse
• A water flosser
• A nighttime mouth guard

Utilizing these items can help to ensure that no particles or bacteria build up in or around the implant site, allowing it to properly heal and maintain its vitality once it is properly impacted. Regular visits with your dentist are also crucial.
