If you have one or more missing teeth, you know how quickly you can lose confidence in your smile. Because there are so many treatment options available, there is no need to suffer when your quality of life can be improved in just a few quick appointments. One way to replace missing teeth is with implant supported dentures offered by Dr. Cieplak.

How Does It Work?

First, a series of implants are placed around the jaw to work as the foundation that supports the dentures. Once those are placed, the dentures are attached to the top of the titanium rods and are secured without pastes or adhesives. Dentures require at least two implants to be fused into the jawbone to adequately support them. There are two ways that dentures can be attached to the implants:

  • Ball-retained dentures: a set of studs and sockets are used to attach the dentures

  • Bar-retained dentures: thin metal clips and bars are used to attach the dentures

Two surgeries are necessary to place implant supported dentures. In the first, the implants are placed in the jaw by your dentist in Oxon Hill, MD. After this, the bone needs time to heal and to attach to the rod. Once the implants are secure in the jaw, the abutments, or connector pieces are placed or exposed. At this point, the custom dentures are attached to the tops of the implants.

Typically, the entire process takes place over several months, and we are happy to arrange your appointments to fit with your busy schedule. At Cieplak Dental Excellence, we know we can give you a healthier, happier smile.
