For people who would be better off replacing an entire arch of teeth, All-on-4 dental implants are a great option. In most cases, the patient will not need a bone grafting done beforehand, and you can enjoy improved chewing capabilities. Since the restorations are held into place with titanium posts fused to the jawbone, you do not have to worry about your teeth slipping around your mouth. Another advantage is that the recovery time is minimal.

Resuming Normal Activities

Recovery times vary from patient to patient, but for the most part, people can resume their regular activities within three or four days. However, you should follow the advice of our periodontist. You will also receive instructions on what you should eat during the first few days. It will probably be for the best to consume mostly liquids, such as smoothies and soups. After several weeks, you should be able to go back to your regular diet.

Experiencing Any Discomfort

You can expect some discomfort in the first few days as the bone and gums heal. Dr. Bill Akin can prescribe you heavy-duty painkillers to help you manage the pain. We will also prescribe antibiotics and anti-inflammatory medications to help you avoid infections during this time.

Maintaining Good Oral Hygiene

You should continue to brush and floss like normal during the recovery period. If you are not careful, then bacteria will form around the gum tissue, which could potentially inflame the tissue, compromising the integrity of the implants. In extreme circumstances, a patient will develop a severe infection known as an abscess.
